Thousands of trees have been planted on the DANCEY FAMILY FARM to form windbreaks and reforested areas.
2) WILD EDIBLES
Wild raspberries and fruit bearing bushes flourish, among the diverse coniferous and deciduous trees.
Hugelkultur mounds grow squash for the pigs to eat during the fall and winter. The carefully constructed mounds are self-watering, which conserves groundwater.
Three ponds have ‘naturalized’ to provide a refuge for pollinators, birds, and many kinds of frogs, toads and other amphibians.
5) TALLGRASS PRAIRIE
In June 2010, a diverse mix of seeds from plants that are native to SW Ontario were planted on 2.4 acres of a sandy knoll. Over time the organic matter and deep roots of these prairie plants will enrich the soil. Besides being beautiful, this is a safe area for pollinators, birds, and small critters.
